Our internship program is a key part of Localworks Foundation’s education goal to build the next generation of climate-conscious designers and builders. This year, interns will gain hands-on experience both in-office and on-site, fully immersing themselves in our design-and-build approach.

Internships
A three-month, immersive design-build programme that equips students and young professionals with hands-on experience in ecological architecture, construction, and research in Uganda.

The Localworks Foundation Internship Programme is a structured, experiential learning programme combining office-based design work with on-site construction. Interns contribute directly to real projects while developing practical skills in sustainable and context-responsive building.

University students and recent graduates
Early-career professionals in the built environment
Disciplines: architecture, engineering, construction, and related fields
Open to both Ugandan and international applicants

Hands-on experience across both studio and construction site environments
Exposure to ecological design and sustainable building methods
Participation in live projects and real-world problem-solving
Mentorship from experienced practitioners
Strong material for portfolios and future career development

Duration: June – August (3 months)
Format: Office + site-based learning with a mid-programme rotation
Interns split into two groups and rotate between:
Design studio (drawings, research, modelling)
Construction site (hands-on building, site processes)
Includes workshops, check-ins, and collaborative learning sessions
